Verstappen’s F1 debut: ‘I feel ready’

Formula One’s youngest-ever driver heads towards Grand Prix debut in confident frame of mind.

Teenaged sensation Max Verstappen says he is ready for his Grand Prix debut at the tender age of 17, and believes his Toro Rosso team could make big strides towards the front of the field this year.

Even with only six full days of pre-season testing under his belt, the Dutchman says he is ready for Melbourne, and is targeting the Q3 shoot-out.

“We did a lot of laps, that’s all I could ask for,” said Verstappen of pre-season testing.

“I needed to experience pitstops, starts, race distances, qually runs – so I feel ready.

“We did everything that we needed to do through winter testing, I think we made a good step forward with the car, and I learned a lot.”

Ready to make an impact

Verstappen believes that Toro Rosso has made a big leap forward with its Renault-powered STR10 chassis, and he even outpaced Daniel Ricciardo in the top Red Bull team on the final day of testing in Barcelona.

“It’s quite a big step, I think we made a bigger step compared to the other competitors,” he added.

“I really like the car, and after such a good winter, it’s very positive. I can’t wait for Australia.”
