Perodua sold 106,179 cars from Jan-May 2022, 10% higher y-o-y – Myvi leads the pack with 31,689 units –

With 18,901 cars sold in May 2022, Perodua has breached the 100k mark for the year with 106,179 units sold for the first five months of 2022. This is 10% more than the 96,281 units registered in the same period last year.

Of the year-to-date total, the evergreen Myvi – updated late last year – leads the way with 31,689 units registered in January to May 2022, followed by the Axia at 24,024 units and the Bezza at 23,336 units.

By the way, the Malaysian market leader’s sales target for 2022 is 247,800 units, which is 30.2% higher than the 190,291 vehicles delivered in 2021, and 12.6% more than the 220,163 vehicles registered in 2020.

P2 has seven more months of sales to achieve that, and will need the contribution of the all-new Alza-replacement model. The MPV, codenamed D27A, has already been teased, and the launch is just around the corner now.

A lot depends on the supply of parts. Perodua president and CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said that among the issues currently affecting local automotive suppliers are the lingering impact of Covid-19, component shortages and lack of manpower.

“These issues are currently being addressed as Perodua and our suppliers are finding solutions and this registration extension will give us much needed room to overcome these issues,” he said, referring to the government’s decision to allow the registration of SST-free cars until March 31, 2023.

“To date, we have significant outstanding orders which we are working to fulfil. We appreciate our customers’ patience in this regard,” the P2 chief added.
