New testing from Saietta Group’s ground-breaking AFT 140 electric motor has shown the technology can boost car ranges by up to 10 percent. The research pitted two Renault Twizy models head-to-head in a direct comparison in Amsterdam.
The first Twizy was a standard Renault model while the second was upgraded to the new electric motor.
Other systems and components were not touched to showcase the effectiveness of the new technology.
Experts say the finding opens “tremendous opportunities” for the electrification of lightweight vehicles.
Wicher Kist, Chief Executive Officer at Saietta Group said the new battery is a “significant improvement” in technology.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted that these independent tests have shown the technical capabilities of our AFT 140 electric motor.
“Proving the significant improvement the technology can make to applications in the real-world today.
“Internally we always knew how transformational our axial flux technology is.
“But for it to be validated by a respected and neutral engineering powerhouse like New Electric is proof to the wider industry that Saietta Group is leading the way in this mobility field.

“To boost a battery electric vehicle driving range by 10 percent through simply swapping the electric motor is highly impressive.”
The research also showed the new motor is adept at converting kinetic energy back into the braking pack during braking.
This could open up the small possibility of cars even charging while on the move.
The tests were conducted by vehicle specialist New Electric.
Each model was fitted with a laptop which processed data from the vehicle allowing teams to synchronise together the results.
Anne Kloppenborg, director at New Electric said the potential for the new battery has “no limit”.
She said: “We closely assessed the two Twizy EVs and, having completed the program, it’s very easy for me to conclude that the Saietta AFT 140 motor is a stellar piece of technology.
“It’s a perfect fit for a vehicle such as the Twizy and its potential to create sustainable mobility in congestion city centres has no limit.”
The new technology is not the only development for electric car batteries in 2021.
New lithium-ion batteries capable of charging in just five minutes have been developed by StoreDot and manufactured by Eve Energy.
Doron Myersdorf, CEO of StoreDot said: “The number one barrier to the adoption of electric vehicles is no longer cost, it is range anxiety.
“You’re either afraid that you’re going to get stuck on the highway or you’re going to need to sit in a charging station for two hours.
“But if the experience of the driver is exactly like fuelling [a petrol car], this whole anxiety goes away.”
“A five-minute charging lithium-ion battery was considered to be impossible.”
