2023 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek: Go Ahead, Try and Find Some Rocky Creeks
The Rock Creek treatment has returned to the Nissan Pathfinder lineup for 2023, having made the jump from the previous-generation three-row crossover to the newest model that debuted last year. Like before, the Pathfinder Rock Creek adds an outdoorsy visual flair to the SUV, but this time, Nissan is installing more hardware to back up that off-road image.
Whereas the former Rock Creek was little more than a set of special wheels, some extra blacked-out exterior trim, and other minor upgrades, this new one has an “off-road-tuned” suspension with a 5/8-inch lift. We’ll admit that spotting that height difference will probably be tough, just as it will hard to discern from a casual distance whether the 18-inch “beadlock-style” wheels are, in fact, real beadlocks. Our guess is that the word “style” says it all, but hey, Nissan wraps the handsome rims in all-terrain tires (instead of all-seasons like before), so there is some extra capability lurking beneath this Pathfinder Rock Creek.
Every Rock Creek, by the way, comes with all-wheel drive, as well as another surprise: A horsepower bump over regular Pathfinders. Nissan fiddled with the SUV’s engine management software to allow for the use of premium fuel; fill up with the higher-octane gas, and you’ll see the V-6 engine’s horsepower rise from 284 hp to 295 hp and torque to 270 lb-ft from 259.
Bystanders are more likely to notice the cool roof rack than the suspension lift or extra power, and buyers will surely appreciate the rack’s 220-pound load capacity. Combined with those wheels, a darkened front bumper and grille, orange contrast stitching inside, and surprisingly cool “Rock Creek” badges and embroidery (with little orange mountains alongside them), the 2023 Pathfinder Rock Creek certainly looks ready to escape the mall parking lot for less paved pastures. The Rock Creek goes on sale later this summer, and you can expect pricing to be available closer to that time.
