Weirdly, Audi’s S8 Engine Fire Recall Isn’t for the Lamborghini Engined Model

We sincerely hope that 2013-2018 Audi A8 and S8 owners heed this recall because we really don’t want our glib headline to age like milk. But there is the potential for that since Audi is recalling nearly 14,000 models due to a rare risk of fire.

The problem stems from seals around the engine compartment that may come loose over time and touch hot engine components, reports CarComplaints.com. This can lead to scorched seals and components and there is a risk of fire.

Audi first learned of the problem in September 2019 when field reports from outside North America indicated that thermal overload could occur. Tests were conducted in March that indicated the problem stems from a bad wire helix profile. This can become deformed due to extreme temperature changes in the engine compartment.

The recall is expected to begin on September 4, 2020, and will affect 13,000 US cars along with 800 Canadian cars.
