Watch: The 94 Bugatti EB110 Supersport Le Mans got 20 MPG

The Mullin Automotive Museum with a new 5 part YouTube series, Under the Hood featuring some of the best French engineering of all time.

Today’s car is the 1994 Bugatti EB110 Supersport Le Mans, which was powered by a 3.5-liter, 60-valve, V12 with four turbos that was fed by 12 individual throttle bodies. The was enough to squeeze 600 hp out of the engine and get the EB110 to 60 in just 3.14 seconds and onto a top speed of 220 mph.

What you tend not to consider when these numbers get discussed is how much (or how little) fuel these engines use. In the Bugatti’s case, thanks to its four turbos and an engine only a liter larger than a 5-cylinder Audi engine these days, could get as much as 20 miles per gallon.

That’s not going to set any hypermiling records, but it is at least noteworthy for a car that Michael Schumacher bought at the height of his career.

The series will take a look at French engine and this episode will be followed by four more featuring the 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C-SS “Goutte d’Eau” (July 31), the 1938 Dubonnet Hispano-Suiza H6B “Xenia” (August 7), the 1934 Avions Voisin Type C27 Grand Sport Roadster (August 14) and the 1931 Bugatti Type 50S (August 21).
