Toyota's GR Supra Sport Top Is a MK IV Throwback With Removable Roof and a Basket Handle Wing
Last year, Toyota took its 2020 Supra to SEMA presenting everything from a 750 BHP model to the tamer GR Supra Performance Line concept, and now the Japanese marque is back with another new concept: the 2021 GR Supra Sport Top.
Taking after last year’s 500 BHP GR Supra Heritage Edition (which also appeared once again in the SEMA presentation), the Sport Top variant is essentially a Supra without its roof. As a result, this style heavily echoes the beloved Supra Mk IV — and the inspirations don’t stop there.
The rear lights are circular like the Mk IVs, while the “Basket Handle” rear wing is a rather uncanny throwback too. Its roof is made from two 3D-printed composite panels that can be removed and stowed away in the trunk, and it is not a T-top style — instead, the model opts for a full open-air experience.
In order to create this atmosphere, Toyota’s team had to reinforce the structural integrity of the car, especially around the roof’s outer body structure and the overall underbody.
Elsewhere, you’ll find a new diffuser that houses a set of twin tailpipes, an exterior painted in “Absolute Zero” white with “Black Piano” finishes on the canopy, rims, and skirting, and finally a red leather interior.
For now, the model seen above is just a SEMA concept. Take a look at the 2021 Toyota GR Supra Sport Top in the gallery and footage above.
In other news, Mansory has built a carbon fiber-clad lawnmower inspired by the Air Jordan 11 “Jubilee” in collaboration with BSTN.
