First pics of the Skoda Slavias 8-inch touchscreen ICE

VW is also swapping out the 10-inch ICE from the Virtus for an 8-inch touchscreen.

A few weeks back we had reported that Skoda was planning to downgrade the touchscreen infotainment system in the Slavia from a 10-inch to an 8-inch head unit. Now, cars equipped with the smaller ICE have started reaching dealerships.

At first glance, the new 8-inch Panasonic head unit doesn’t look that bad. It has two rotary dials on either side and haptic controls for the main menu options. The screen itself is smaller and has integrated SmartLink but lacks an in-built navigation system.

Volkswagen too is swapping out the 10-inch touchscreen from the Virtus for an 8-inch head unit sourced from Panasonic as the company grapples with the global semiconductor shortage.

Both the Slavia and Virtus share the same MQB-A0-IN platform and are offered with the same powertrain options: 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 113 BHP and 178 Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit with 148 BHP and 250 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed DSG.
